African Xhosa Sangoma, John Lockley

John just completed a Thanksgiving Ceremony slideshow

South African shamans are known as Sangomas, meaning seers, dreamers or prophets – they are the traditional healers of Africa. John Lockley is a senior Sangoma in the Xhosa tribe, the tribe that gave us Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. He is the only white man to hold this title in recent history. John’s mission is reflected in his initiated name, Ucingolwendaba which means messenger or connector between people and cultures. Every year he works as a traditional Sangoma in the Eastern Cape, South Africa and then leads sacred ceremonies in the UK, Ireland, USA & Mexico to help people reconnect with their ancestors.

A Xhosa Sangoma Ceremonial Medicine Workshop

Saturday-Sunday May 19-20, 2012
At the Sacred Earth Sanctuary
633 Valley Rd. Florissant, CO 80816

$201 for 2 days together in ceremony and teaching. We begin on Saturday at 9:30am and finish around 5PM. Return on Sunday 9:30am and end around 3:00pm.
Part of John's work involves numerology so you will see some unusual numbers in payments which bring in power to the process.
Watch John’s first TV appearance on Ireland’s TV3 where he speaks about his work as an African Shaman, and he mentions his Irish background, in particular his Irish grandmother who was a prophetic dreamer.
Participants will be guided along an ancient path of reconnecting with their ancestors using medicinal plants, prayer, intention, rhythm and dancing. Sacred Xhosa Sangoma songs or Ingomas will help people to reconnect with themselves, nature and their community in order to realize their intrinsic Ubuntu – “humanity”. In the Xhosa and Zulu languages Izinyanya means ancestors, literally our blood ancestors. It also means “the silent hidden ones”, which encompasses the spiritual forces of nature.

During this ceremonial time, participants will experience:
The ‘heartbeat’ meditation and how to feel their own spirits
A blessing and purification ceremony using medicinal plants
Dreamwork and how to distinguish between truth or white/prophetic dreams and ordinary dreams
A journey towards the ancestral world using sacred sangoma Ingomas (trance songs and rhythms)
A sense of community and working together to reclaim our natural ‘ubuntu’ (humanity)

An evening with John Lockley

Friday May 18, 2012 7:00PM
Celebrations Conscious Living
2209 W. Colorado Ave. Colorado Springs, CO
Suggested Donation $21 per person

This evening offers a first hand glimpse into the life of a traditional Xhosa Sangoma. Teaching in the traditional way with drumming, singing and storytelling, John regales us with stories from his home in South Africa as well as stories from the road.
It is widely understood in South Africa that when a Sangoma starts to sing and play their drum they start to summon the Ancestors or Spirit Beings. As a traditional Sangoma John plays his drum and sings ancient ‘Ingomas’ or Xhosa chants whenever he is called on to give a talk. From the rural areas of South Africa to London, New York, Dublin, Cork and Mexico to name a few, people have experienced powerful dreams after these brief 1.5 – 3 hour ceremonies performed by John. In a few instances people have recalled dreams about their Ancestors, which has then precipitated further contact with John. There will be time to ask questions.

Private Divinations with John

John does a divination using ‘bones’ (shells, stones and other sacred objects). He enters a meditative state where he connects with his ancestral spirit guides, as well as the spirits of the client. In this space he divines or ‘sees’ the emotional, physical and spiritual health of his client. Divination is a powerful tool to guiding you to your life’s purpose as well as forging a path of connection to your ancestors and spirit guides. Each session lasts about an hour. $151 by appointment only
